We’ve all heard different phrases describing the healing process, like “time heals all wounds,” but what exactly does it look like? This simple yet powerful video of a zen garden serves as a great visual representation.

As the rotating mechanism works over the bowl, someone takes a scoop out of the sand, leaving a hole in the otherwise smooth surface — a “wound” of sorts.

The zen garden is no longer whole, representing the way many of us feel after a traumatic event. But as the mechanism turns, pushing sand, it slowly fills the hole, depicting the healing effects of time and what happens when we pour back into our metaphorical cups.
