Act of Kindness
Todayās story of kindness was submitted by InspireMore reader Mike M.:
āFor decades, I have asked people I have helped to āpay it forwardā instead of worrying about thanking me. This time, I got that chance.
On the freeway, at 60 mph heading to work, my car decided it wasnāt going any further and the engine shut off. After coasting to a stop on the shoulder, I called AAA. Since I was too close to a narrow shoulder over a bridge, they had to send a second tow truck to block the right lane while the tow truck hooked up my car. This was a no-charge item, since the blocking truck company often swaps places with my tow truck company. That was kindness enough for me. But what happened next floored me.
My wife showed up in our other car. She would stay with the towed vehicle so I could get to work with minimum delay. When I asked her how she would get home, she turned around and pointed to her mother in her car. Apparently, she had told her mom she would drive to my work at midnight to pick me up after work. Her mother's response? āLike hell you will!ā
But the story gets even better. The next night, I was driving home after midnight and was almost there. As I turned into our development, a car sat straddling the double yellow line with his hazard lights on. I was barely able to pull up next to it and asked the driver if I could help. I felt this was time for ME to pay it forward. He said his car was out of gas, and he had no money with him. After finding the nearest two gas stations closed, I bought a one gallon container, took the gas back to him and gave him ten dollars to get more gas.
Itās not often we get to live out our guiding principles. But in the case, I had to stop considering the kindness of the day before.ā

Way to cast the stone, Mike! š
