Everyday Heroes

Chances are, there’s at least one teacher you remember fondly from your school days. Maybe they were there for you when things at home weren’t so great, or they went above and beyond to make learning fun.

Sara Shabir is one of these underappreciated gems. She teaches at Tyndale Community School in East Oxford, England, where she recently surprised students with incredibly thoughtful end-of-year gifts!

In May, Sara began crocheting 30 “mini-me” dolls for each of her students. It took about 8 hours per doll — that’s around 240 hours total! The care and attention to detail that went into each of these dolls clearly reflects how she feels about “her” kids. What a sweet way to make them feel special!

“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”
